Teaching Philosophy

My choice to become a teacher, I will say, was not something I had always had in mind for myself. I always thought I would find myself in a medical position as I had always been very good at science and math. So, when I went to college for the first time that was my path. When that did not end up working out, I had to dig deep and really think about what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. My passion in life is creating art and being able to do that for my career was really what I wanted. My best friend started school to be a teacher, and I started asking her questions about it. I thought back to my high school career and my art teacher being such a great person. There were many teachers that had a big impact on me and who helped me get through some major life events. I realized that becoming an art teacher would be a good path for me. I am drawn to high school because I believe I have good life experience and advice that I can lend to students in need. Kids these days must go through a lot, and they just need someone to make them feel heard. Art has also been a great hobby for me by providing distraction or a way to process an issue and I think that it would be fulfilling to be able to teach others. I believe any person should be able to experience creating art and learning about the human experience through artwork. Art has a way of teaching us how to understand ourselves and people around us in ways that build human connection and empathy. I want to teach students that art is a strong resource in society for capturing everything, from everyday moments to major events. My main goal as a teacher is just to inspire kids to be curious and try new things, giving them art as a tool to do that.
